My Love for Antique Jewellery

6 January 2017

I often sit with Hubbie watching Antique Roadshow and just love it when people appear with family jewellery that has been passed on from generation to generation. There is something wonderful about the romantic history of these objects and the love they have given and received to the people wearing them. It somehow makes them more appealing to own and wear, knowing they have a lot of history.

As I have matured (like fine wine) I have a new found passion for antique and vintage jewellery. The uniqueness and beauty of some pieces is really appealing and I am hoping over time, I can build up a small collection of beautiful items that I can then pass on to my daughter.

I have recently been exploring the fabulous ranges available online at Berganza. Berganza specialise in antique and vintage jewellery and have premises in Hatton Garden, London. They offer a wide range of jewellery from periods as early as the Romans through to the retro of the 1940s and 1950s.

Each item of jewellery is sourced to represent the best of it's period and will provide endless satisfaction to its new owner.  At this moment in time I can only imagine what it would be like to own such a timeless piece and  I have a longing for a pearl ring that I noticed on their website.  With this in mind I have left lots of hints around the house for hubbie to see, without actually telling him.

The main thing to remember when buying antique or vintage jewellery is to buy it from a reputable source.  You wouldn't want to end up purchasing an item which is fake or the quality of the stones are substandard.  For me the new trend is to buy something old, something with history and love which will be more unique than items that are mass produced today.

Do you own jewellery that is a family heirloom? I would love to know the stories behind them.

Written in collaboration with Berganza.
