Dobble - Board Game Club July

26 July 2017

We were recently invited to join the Board Game Club UK with Esdevium Games and could not wait to receive our first board game. As a family it is important to step away from on screen activities and work to be able to enjoy valuable family time, what better way than to play a new board game and have some fun.

Our first game to arrive was Dobble, now I had not heard of this game previously, but Gee has played it in school and was eager to open it and tell us what to do.

Dobble cards come in a handy tin which is perfect for taking on holiday or even playing in the car on long journeys. Each card is unique and has 8 symbols in varying shapes and sizes, with one identical symbol in common between each card. Dobble is a fantastic observational card game that can be played 5 ways.

The Towering Inferno
Shuffle the pack of cards and place one card face down in front of each player and the remaining cards face up in the middle of the table (draw pack). Each player must then turn over their card and be the quickest to match his or her card with the card that is face up in the middle of the table (draw pack). The first person to guess correctly then adds this card to the top of their card and the next round starts again.  The winner is the person with the most cards when the draw pile is empty.

The Well
Deal out all the cards equally between all players placing the last card in the middle of the table face up. Each player then shuffles their cards and places them face down. The aim of this game to get rid of all your cards by being the quickest to match up you top card with the centre card, this then gets placed in the centre pile and so on until one person has no cards left.

The Hot Potato
For each round of this game each player is given a card to hide in their hand and the remaining cards are set on one side for further rounds. On the word 'go' players reveal their cards and must match their card with one of their opponents which are clearly on display in their hand and places their card on top of it. The opponent must then find the image on the new card that matches on of the other opponents, this carries on until one person is left with all the cards. Further rounds can be played with the cards that had been placed on one side. The object of this game is to be the fastest at getting rid of your card.

Gotta Catch Them All
Place one card face up in the middle of the table and deal one card face down to each player. To start players flip over the cards around the middle one and they must be fastest at identifying a match with the middle card and gain it for themselves, you must never removed the middle card.  Cards can continue to be dealt like this until no cards remain in the pack. The winner is the person who gains the most cards.

The Poisoned Gift
Once the cards are shuffled, place one face down in front of each player and create a draw pile with the cards remaining. Each player must spot an identical symbol between the card on the draw pile and one of the other players, the first person to find it draws the middle card and places it on top of the concerned player's pile. This reveals a new draw card and the game continues. The winner is the person with fewest cards when there are no more cards in the draw pile.

All the games are easy to play, using your skills of speed and observation make it thoroughly enjoyable to battle against friends and family members.  Dobble is aimed at children aged 6 years and over and 2-8 players can enjoy the game at any time. Dobble retails for around £12.99 which I think is a great price for a game with lots of variety and you can buy it from Amazon.  We will definitely be taking Dobble on our next long haul trip it will be great fun to pass the long hours on board a plane.

We were sent this game by Esdevium Games for the purpose of this post but the opinion is entirely our own.
