Drink Water - The Feel Good Challenge

Water is the essential ingredient we must all consume to live a healthy life. As parents it is especially important for us to ensure that our children stay hydrated and feel good.

Dehydration in children can lead to lots of health issues such as tiredness, headaches and dry skin along with impaired mental ability, so ensuring your child drinks plenty of fluids on a daily basis can help to overcome a number of health issues.

My daughter loves plain water and has never liked juice or squash but the boys were quite a challenge as they preferred sweet flavours. Water can be made more appetising for adults and children alike by simply varying the taste:
  • add fruit to ice cubes, blueberries, raspberries and strawberries work well
  • add a dash of freshly squeezed lemon/lime/orange juice
  • try carbonated water for a little fizz
I encouraged Gee to carry a bottle of water around with her all day from an early age, whether she is at school, home or out playing with friends and this has been a huge success. She even takes a bottle of water to bed with her, so less chance of rotting teeth through sugar. Whenever we leave the house it is on her essential list of "do not forget items". If your child doesn't really like water, try buying a posh drinking bottle, this can encourage the most hesitant child or instead of sipping from a glass or cup use a straw (all children love straws).

Highland Spring are running a Feel Good Challenge and I know from personal experience that I tend to drink less than I should. For the last 4 weeks I have increased my water intake and have been drinking around 6 small bottles throughout the day (besides my normal fluid intake).  I was unsure whether I would feel the benefits but I am pleased to report that I feel a lot less tired, more alert and my skin has definitely improved.

Highland Spring water is drawn from organic land in the Ochil Hills in Perthshire and is the perfect companion to help you feel good and improve your hydration. Do you drink enough water on a daily basis?
