An Audience with Father Christmas - Bolsover Castle

For the first time this year Bolsover Castle in Derbyshire are hosting an Audience with Father Christmas for all the little ones and their families to enjoy.  Not only can you explore the grounds of historic Bolsover Castle and take in the fabulous views, the children can spend around 25 minutes listening to the man himself regale you with enchanted Christmas tales.

Set in the library in the Little Castle, the children gathered round as Father Christmas entered the room, there are plenty of seats for adults as well, but the children take pride of place in front of Father Christmas.  He then took a seat by the decorated tree and began to tell the story of how the Robin got his red breast.  All the children were transfixed and it was a wonderful way to start the Christmas period.

After the story had finished each child got to spend time with Father Christmas. It was pure joy to see the expressions on the children's faces, as the man himself took time with every child in the room, listening to their requests and finally handing them a small present to keep them going until the big day itself.

The rest of the castle is tastefully decorated with trees and floral arrangements to match the era of the castle itself and we enjoyed looked around and admiring them.

Bolsover Castle is owned by English Heritage and an Audience with Father Christmas is available to book every weekend until the 18th December.  Sessions are every half an hour and booking is recommended in advance.  There is an additional cost of £4 for all children to experience the story telling and receive a small gift.

When you have finished exploring there is a lovely café on hand where you can warm up with hot chocolate and mince pies or light meals are also available for a reasonable cost.

We really enjoyed this magical experience and had an amazing time.  I would thoroughly recommend a visit to an Audience with Father Christmas.

I attended this event free of charge but the opinions are our own.
