Riverford Recipe Box

I don't know about you but I get really bored with sticking to the same recipes time and again but with limited time sometimes this seems the only option.  When the kind folks at Riverford asked me to review one of their new organic recipe boxes I was over the moon, maybe this would give me the much needed push in to creating something different.

We were sent the Riverford Quick 3 Meals which is priced at £39.95 and our box contained all of the ingredients needed to make Yakitori Chicken Skewers with black rice, ginger and sesame salad, Pancetta and braised little gems with potato, celery and herbs and Courgette and chilli spaghetti. The items arrived freshly delivered in a box that was divided in to three sections, one for fruit and vegetables, one for the cool bag which was wrapped in a ice pack which contained the meat and cheese etc and the middle section was divided into three with a space for ingredients for each recipe.

Clear recipe cards were provided with easy to follow instructions and timings for preparation and cooking with useful information around the origin of the dishes being prepared, I love the fact that you can save these and I have already added them to my cooking file.

The Yakitori Chicken Skewers with Black Rice, Ginger and Sesame Salad were absolutely delicious and so quick and easy to prepare and cook.  I had never tried black rice before but it was really nice and so tasty and the Yakitori glaze was gorgeous and so simple.

The second meal I cooked was the Pancetta and Braised Little Gems with Potato, Celery and Herbs.  I was a bit dubious about using little gems in hot food but amazingly to me they tasted great and Grotbags even tucked in, this is a miracle in itself, but I think she has loved helping to cook these meals and with everything being ready to just cook, we enjoyed cooking them together.

We haven't tried the third dish as yet, as hubbie does not eat cheese and the Courgette and Chilli Spaghetti with Basil, Lemon and Creme Fraiche does have hard cheese in it.  Therefore we will wait until he is at work and enjoy it on our own.  All the items supplied have a shelf life of 5 days so the box does not have to be used straightaway which is a good idea.

I am really impressed with this service and will definitely consider using them, perhaps not on a weekly basis but as a monthly treat.  The portion sizes were large enough for Grotbags to enjoy sampling the delights also, which meant I did not have to prepare anything seperately for her.  One thing I would have liked is to be able to choose three meals which contained meat and this is not an option with the boxes on offer, but saying that it is nice to try something different for a change. Riverford also provide vegetable and fruit boxes and all of their produce is organic.

Family Fever

We were sent this recipe box free of charge for the purpose of this review but the opinions are my own.

  1. This seems like a great idea but I am so bad at following recipes. The chicken looks lovely though x

  6. I must say the chicken skewers look absolutely delish. You've definitely done them justice here! I can imagine this is a nice treat every now and then instead of having to purchase and think of what you're going to cook!
