Spring Cleaning - Time To Get My Hands Dirty

Ah, it’s that time of year again. It’s the time when the crocuses poke their sleepy buds out of the ground, the sun returns, and the Easter eggs start to show up in the sweetie aisle in the grocery store.

But while spring is certainly a magical time of year, it’s also the best time to give your house a good scrub. Since everything has been cooped up all winter long, the return of warm weather is the perfect time to air everything out and wash away four months’ worth of grime and grit. While this may seem like a daunting task, here are a few tips to make everything run smoothly.

Make a plan
If you set out to clean the whole house in one day, chances are you’ll end up overwhelmed and frustrated. Instead, sit down beforehand and make a plan of action. Think about the things that are in the most need of a cleaning and how you will go about it. During this time, you can also see how long each task will take and then set aside enough time to get everything sufficiently scrubbed.

Enlist some help
While you are making your plan, it can also help to delegate tasks to other family members with whom you share the house. The more helpers you have, the faster the work will go. To reward your helpers, you can put together a fun family outing or a special dinner.

Tackle the major things first
Once you have an idea of how you are going to clean the house, you can begin by working on the major objectives first. Cleaning the kitchen, dusting behind the bookcases and emptying the drainpipes are all major tasks that often get neglected during the winter, but can make a tremendous difference in how clean your house feels. If you start with the most important tasks, it will give you a sense of accomplishment that will help motivate you to complete minor tasks as well.

Clean indoors and out
As you clean, don’t forget your garden. Get it ready for spring planting by clearing away the old rotting leaves, branches and other debris left by the winter weather. If you want, you can give these tasks to the family members who enjoy the outdoors.

Clobber the clutter
If you find that clutter is getting in your way, one way to get rid of it is to sell it online. All you have to do is take an inventory of what you want to sell and then find a website that will let you list it for free. While you can sell almost anything online, popular sellers include good quality apparel, jewellery, electronics and homeware.

While spring cleaning may be a big task, it’s necessary for a clean home. So get to work and welcome the new season.
